December 29, 2008

John A. Challenger is Chief Executive Officer of Challenger, Gray & Christmas, Inc., the nation's first, oldest and premier outplacement consulting firm. In this 20 minute interview, John shares his professional observations about today's precarious job market and specific actions you can take to keep, or find, a good job.

You need to listen to this discussion with Mr. Challenger if:
You have a job and want to ensure you're doing everything you can to keep it;
You're out of work wondering what you can do to enhance your marketability.

Given our current economic conditions, there should be no debate about whether you have the time to listen to this free advice ... it may be the most valuable investment you make this year.

John Challenger served on the labor/human resource committee of The Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago from 1999-2002. In 1998, 2001, and 2003, he delivered addresses before the World Future Society, in 2001 and 2003 he addressed the annual conference of the Ethics Officers Association and conferences of leading business executives in Japan, and he has been frequently quoted by publications such as the Wall Street Journal.

A Message from Mike...

I've heard from several people that they were really looking forward to closing the book on 2008. But the best comment I received was from a friend who sent me an e-mail with this headline: "BOYCOTT THE RECESSION." He told me that he was getting sick of all the bad news, or as Zig Zigler calls it, Stinkin' Thinkin', and the media's best efforts to make him and the rest of us depressed. He went on to explain that after looking at all the facts and considering all the angles, he determined that participating in the recession would be bad for his emotional, physical and financial well being.

So he decided that he's going to sit this recession out and be thankful for the things he has – things like good health, a great family, and the fact that he lives in a great country, the United States.

Sure, we have our flaws, and right now the word of the day is "bailout. But why not "bailout" from all this bad news and join my friend and I as we "BOYCOTT THE RECESSION."Somehow, someway, this country will get through this mess – so will you.

We can begin by taking the steps necessary to insure our careers and be open to advice from professionals who want to see us succeed. For additional support, read "Get Some Career Insurance," the article I authored for the current issue of CSCMP's Supply Chain Quarterly.

That said - Happy New Year and have a great 2009! I'm sure you will you find our interview with John Challenger to be valuable, and if you'd like to contact me just click here, I'd love to hear from you.
