On the Record with Dr. Gary Shilling

February 4, 2010

We are pleased to present this On the Record interview with Dr. Gary Shilling. Dr. Shilling is well known for his forecasting record that spans over the last 40 years and has twice been ranked as Wall Street's top economist and Futures magazine ranked him the country's number one Commodity Trading Advisor.

If you have a vested interest in supply chain issues, or you're concerned about your own personal financial portfolio, listen to this interview.

We know that many of you are extremely busy and you may be asking yourself: Do I have 30 minutes to listen to an economist? Trust me; this interview is worth investing the time. In this On the Record session, Dr. Shilling addresses some very important issues such as his economic predictions for 2010, his concerns about the Chinese economy, and his thoughts about inflation. After listening to this interview, my executive assistant Maribeth told me, "This is something that everyone should hear."

Dr. Shilling established his own firm, A. Gary Shilling & Company, in 1978 and has a resume that is chock full of accomplishments. Our readers may recognize him as a featured columnist in Forbes magazine, as well as a regular contributor for The Wall Street Journal and The New York Times, among others. He also appears frequently on radio and television business shows and is regularly on CNBC.

Since this is the first time we have featured an economist in our On the Record series, some of you may be wondering what we are up to. Let me explain why this information is so relevant...

After we released our "What's Ahead in 2010" White Paper, we heard from some loyal readers who wanted to discuss the challenges they are experiencing as they manage their supply chain decisions in a sea of economic uncertainty. I was particularly intrigued by a challenge from a good friend and long time reader. Here was his challenge: "Instead of highlighting the obvious, (i.e., the fact that things like production scheduling, inventory levels and many other supply chain decisions are impacted by economic projections) why not take advantage of your network and polish that Crystal Ball of yours, and give us some useful information about what the economy will look like in 2010?"

I had to remind my friend that I'm no economist. Fortunately though, TranzAct does have a great network, including some very good economists. So as a favor to him and the rest of our TranzAct Insiders, we recruited Dr Gary Shilling to help us polish that Crystal Ball.

Dr. Shilling also produces a monthly newsletter, Insight. It is a fabulous newsletter and if you are interested in learning more about how you can subscribe to Insight let us know. We've arranged for a special discount for Tranzact Insiders.

We would welcome your feedback about this interview and trust that you will find this interview to be worthwhile.
