Welcome to another edition of On the Record. We are delighted to be welcoming back Doug Duncan, CEO and President of FedEx Freight. Doug is among the most insightful executives in the industry.
When we interviewed Doug last year, he shared his thoughts regarding critical issues affecting the industry - one of which was the state of this nation's transportation infrastructure. One year later, this issue continues to remain at the top of Doug's agenda. The industry press has done a good job of covering this issue, but one key question remains: How will we as a nation pay for improving the transportation infrastructure? I think you will be interested in Doug's answer to this question, and his comments on the privatization initiatives that have been implemented, as well as ones that are being considered.
In addition to his comments about the infrastructure, Doug also discussed what FedEx sees happening in the transportation marketplace, the dynamic between shippers and carriers, and what is really important in managing the supply chain. Having known Doug for several years, he really is one of the most thoughtful leaders in the transportation industry. That is why he has been honored by many organizations and why he has played a prominent role in the American Trucking Association's research activities. And that is why we are honored to have Doug speak to our listeners. So I invite you to pull up a chair and listen in as we go On the Record with Doug Duncan.
