Learn about the late Bill Augello
On November 19, 2006, the transportation and logistics industry lost a giant when Bill Augello passed away at his home in Arizona. Personally, Bill was a husband, a father, and he was a friend to more people than you can count. Professionally, Bill was an attorney, teacher, mentor, and a leader who influenced thousands of people in this industry.
In August, I learned that Bill was gravely ill. So I called Bill and he graciously agreed to go On the Record with Tranzact in, what he acknowledged, would be his last interview. We both agreed it would only be released after his death, as Bill did not want his legions of friends to know the extent of his illness.
We're sending out this On the Record as a tribute to Bill. I'd encourage you to listen as Bill covers a couple of the things that really inspired me. The interview is approximately 12 minutes in length.
For those of you who didn't know Bill, suffice it to say, that if your company ships or receives anything, you benefited from Bill's passion and the work he did on your behalf. Bill's passion for transportation law, and his love for teaching about the law, led him to be one of the foremost advocates for shippers around the country. For example, when the balance due fiasco hit shippers, Bill was at the front of the cavalry to protect shippers from rampant abuses. In this and many other areas, Bill got involved. That is why he was, and is, one of my heroes in this business.
Bill had a keen wit, a great sense of humor, and a wonderful passion and zest for life. In the interview I asked him how many seminars he had taught. He responded: "Over 10,000." I was shocked. That's a lot of seminars. But if you knew Bill, and the fact that he taught seminars for over 50 years, you get a glimpse of his dedication. In response to one of my questions about why, at age 79, he continued to pour so much energy into this business, he responded: "It had to be done." And to Bill's credit, and really it's a part of his legacy, he was willing - even in his final days - to continue his quest to "get it done."
